Low Cost Housing (RDP)
Ah low cost houses! So low in cost in fact, that they fall apart! Or perhaps I should rather say high in cost and low in quality.
It always amazes me – being in the architectural field – that there is no one previously in the government who knew anything about construction or even architecture. Perhaps that also explains the mess SACAP is in? Just read the debate raging!
The latest breaking news (nothing new to most of South Africa really) is that many of the low cost housing have to be pulled down and rebuilt. Gee, you think? My question is why the Government even bothers to make these statements and announcements. Stop stating the obvious and start building decent housing. Viva RDP!
As Tax Payers we have been paying towards the aforementioned low cost housing and guess what? Now you will continue paying. We will have the ultimate slap in the face of paying for the pulling down of the lemons and the construction of the news ones. Isn’t that just fantastic? One house for the price of two and a clearing cost thrown in for good measure!
So there is very little we can do about it seeing we are all held hostage to the ruling parties whims and extravagances but perhaps I could also get a low cost home? I have been retrenched and am left out in the rain. I’d like one of those nice little ones where the roof doesn’t cave in after the first winds!
I’ve paid my taxes and perhaps I should be entitled to a little more than a kick in the teeth…
