This matter has actually been resolved and I am still with Afrihost. So 10/10 for effort on Afrihost’s part. It is just a pity it had to be resolved in such a round about manner and not through these twits below.

This is the actual transcript between myself and Afrihost(.com) about their ever slowing ADSL service. Now we all know about terms and conditions, and that uncapped really means don’t use any bandwidth, and you can use as much as long as you don’t use more than 5 bytes in a week.

My annoyance is that their service is getting slower with the passage of time. This in turn leads to more refreshing and reloading which then creates a heavier load on bandwidth usage. THIS is my point.

I thought the emails were too funny not to share so please read and giggle. I have withheld the individual’s name. It is not the fault of the inoperative operator but rather the company. Bear in mind I was writing to a real human being… I THINK?!

I am beginning to think it is time to change ISPs. Your service is now so slow that a person cannot even load facebook during the day and it is barely acceptable in the evenings.

R199 a month might be cheap but it is really expensive when you consider how little you can actually get done on speeds slower than dialup. The waste of time waiting and reloading constantly is really not on. It actually wastes far more bandwidth this way as we both understand why

Are you planning on upgrading your uncapped service or must we the customers simply seek another ISP? As of today I am looking at various options and I’m going to start trying them out and make a decision next month if I don’t see an improvement.

My user name is dont@ask.afrihost.co.za . No, I am not using your dialup to send this as I can get nothing to load properly. I used to tell everyone about your service but now I am forced to tell them while it works out cheap, don’t count on using it during the day.

If I have to keep switching accounts… I may as well cancel yours and switch permanently!

The usage is monitored on a 10 day roll over window and does not reset it self at the beginning of the month. The service is unshaped.

Should the usage remain at less than 50% of the average user, the service will remain unaffected. However if you should exceed the 50 % of the average user the the first level of shaping will apply, moving the service to a shaped service.

What I think you should do is to look at our capped plan that we don’t throttled or shaped our capped accounts you will get full speeds from our end.

Please be advise that we are given you the service of our product there are Terms and Conditions that you was aware of when sign up for our uncapped packages.

Also you can upgrade your uncapped 384 account to a 4mb uncapped that would allow you to download and use more bandwidth on a 4mb.

Please be advised your service is no longer what it used to be and the bandwidth usage increase is due to that.


If I wanted to pay more for the same service then I must confess I would rather pay someone who can provide a decent service without Bot replies to real emails.

Any more Bot advise? Or can my Bot out do your bot on facts?

The Bot must have gotten botted off and did not reply again. Perhaps it went to take a Bot break? Did the Bot see red? (Corporate colours)
