The Simple Concept of Thanks
I have always been one for helping people. I often go out of my way to do so. As a general rule, I don’t even ask for the words “Thank You” in repayment. All I ask is that a person appreciates it when energy and time has been put into the action of assistance. Take my time and energy and make something of it. That is thanks enough.
So yes, today, I am rather annoyed when people take me for granted. If I go out of my way to help you then the least you can do is honour it. One would think that words are a rare and pricey commodity the way they are so sparsely used these days. They are not and my time is worth more than that!
I find that the world is sadly lacking in gratitude. There is always the moan and groan of the why me and why can’t I get a break?
Well, when someone else needed a break or your help… did you give it to them? Did you take time out of your busy life to provide what they needed?
Yes? I thank you for being a great person. It makes me proud to be part of the human species.
No? Why on earth not? Perhaps you thought there was no benefit in it for you at the time. God forbid we should do anything that doesn’t directly benefit us instantly!
The reality of this way of thinking is that just maybe when you next are in dire straits, those who may have been able to assist you, may also be too busy.
Mankind needs to learn to be less selfish. It is time to say thank you for what you have, what you receive, and make a concerted effort to appreciate those who do come to your aid.
Better yet? Go help someone who needs it more than you!
