The largest man made forest in the world!
A quick search through Google will reveal a rather interesting fact about our city of Johannesburg. It is considered to be the largest man made forest in the world. With varying numbers, some say it has over 10 million trees – some of them are right here in my garden!
Shall I go outside and start counting just to verify the numbers? Johannesburg is quite a green city even to the naked eye. The plants love the rain although I’m quite sure that they would prefer temperatures a bit higher than 10°C.
Cough, Cough… my apologies. Some delightful diesel fumes wafting over the wall of my rather green garden. Some of the smog now makes its way through the new aperture in the garden wall too!
With all the changes in weather we are having right here in the city, as with the rest of the world, I have come to wonder if the erratic weather patterns in our city are not perhaps partly of our own creation? The extremes in temperature, the increase in rainfall, and winds occur at random and no longer only in August!
So what is my point in all of this when you could so easily read it for yourself on Google?
Well, it brings to mind the philosophy that the universe is just one great big ball of energy. All is one and we are all part of it. Every action, no matter how small or large, has an impact. Your thoughts, actions, movements, and every breath.
So we are all interconnected. Even the rustling of your clothes has an impact so we can chose to have a negative impact, or a positive one. There is no sitting on the fence on this one. Every action has a reaction. Life itself prescribes an impact. So change is the nature of our existence.
Johannesburg with all its pollution and smog has created a forest! Now if I could just get my rusting roof painted before Johannesburg morphs into a tropical rainforest! I’m collecting donations for tins of paint as we speak!
