Can’t or Won’t?
There are many ways to look at life and sometimes it is important to use appropriate language in both our internal and external communications.
Many motivational speakers and writers insist that one should remove the word “can’t” from our vocabulary. Sometimes we actually do need to use the word as it actually frees us from an insane waste of time attempting the literal impossible!
Using myself as an example, I really do not have the physic for sporting activities. So while I can run – especially when being chased by someone firing a gun in a crazy fashion – I am unlikely to win any marathons. It would be a fairly exhaustive waste of time! It does not stop me from taking up running for physical fitness!
In a spiritual sense everything is possible but we live in a dual existence and in the physical world. Can’t is sometimes the reality. I believe it is important to know your limitations to avoid being caught in a pointless loop of never giving up and thus not being able to move on.
While I’ve been a believer in the laws of attraction – for more than a decade now – such as put forward by “The Secret”, sometimes we need to remain grounded in reality as we reach for the stars. It is a great goal to achieve a greater spiritual level but not at the expense of the physical. We are here in the physical dimension to learn not how to escape it but rather how to master it.
There is a line I often use (and unfortunately don’t know who said it, help me out if you know as Google has not revealed anything) and it is… The key to success is knowing when to stick with something and when to give up (and move on to better things).
I find a better word is often “won’t”. It indicates a sense of power and determination. Instead of saying you cannot do something, be forceful and say you won’t! “Will you be my doormat?”
“NO! I won’t!”
So sometimes it is not so much our ability to stick with something that dictates success but rather the choice of what we stick with!
I found these to be a interesting read…
