Albina Hume has led an interesting life and she has a great story to tell. At first glance, one might think that this is yet another memoir, but it is much more than that. One often sees reviews that start with, “I wouldn’t normally read this sort of book, but I loved it anyway”. Well, this is another one of them, and I do mean it.
It has enough surprises and unusual moments to keep a person reading. The writing style is casual but polished. The author has spent years writing and refining the final product. Albina may have trouble with her Rs, but she has no trouble writing a fascinating book. She has shared some shocking and uplifting parts of her life, and even though she has made a few mistakes, she never gave up hope of “Walking to Africa”.
If you enjoy memoirs, then I can definitely recommend you pick up this one. Expect to be entertained. After reading Miss Fortune, I feel as if my own life is rather sedate by comparison.
